Vaishnodevi Saneeswara Devasthanam is an ancient Shani temple in Kerala located at Mithra Giri, Patharam PO, Sooranadu South, Kollam, is dedicated to Ma Vaishnodevi and Shaneeswaran. It is known to have been consecrated by Siddha Yogis. In addition to the main deities, the temple houses Panchamukha Ganesan, Navagraha, Siddha Yogis, Maya Yakshiyamma, Chathanswami, and Kiraatha Moorthis.
It is believed that this temple has existed since the Treta Yuga. The idol of Shani dev is known to be the oldest and only full bodied idol in South India.
Navaratri Celebrations 2024
The temple hosts special ceremonies featuring the installation of the 9 Navadurga goddesses—Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Bhadrakali, Mahagauri, and Siddhidhatri—in a beautifully decorated Durga Mandap.
His Holiness Mahamandaleshwar Swami Prabhakarananda Saraswati Maharaj inaugurated the Navratri celebrations by lighting the ceremonial lamp and consecrating the nine Navadurga goddesses in a specially prepared Durga Mandap. Daily poojas, archanas, and readings of Devi Mahatmyam, Lalitha Sahasranamam, and Soundarya Lahari are performed, culminating in Ayudha Pooja, Grantha Pooja, and Vidyarambam on the tenth day, offering blessings for students.
